Reading community walk
The community of Reading held a 13 kilometre walk on Saturday 28th February 2026 that brought together over 32 participants who braved the cold weather and wind and completed the walk.
After completing the walk the participants later assembled at Winnersh community centre hall and had refreshments as they discussed matters mental health awareness and the need to socialise and speak out.
Congratulating the participants the Kenya Reading Organisation chairman Mr Peter Mwangi informed them that the main aim of the walk is to exercise the body and bring the community together through social activities that are free.
He stressed that for a long time people in the community have engaged in matters economy and religion and forgot the social activities which are free and very important to the human mind. He reminded the participants that it is important to focus on things money cannot buy like walks, body exercises and socialising.
Bridget Maingi , a mental health nurse spoke to the participants about mental health awareness and the need to speak out .
Those who successfully completed the walk were awarded certificates of attendance and thanked the Kenya Reading Organisation for organising the very successful event .
The participants were also informed that the event was also made possible through the sponsorship of LemFi money sending organisation who have partnered with the Reading community to bring organisation services closer to the people. LemFi has also sponsored the community food bank programme that targets the less privileged in the society.
The next men and women walk event will be held on Saturday 14th , 28th March at the same venue of Winnersh.
