Our Objectives

Social & Recreational Activities
Providing social and recreational activities for social and peer support;

Community Concern
Providing opportunities for the community to come together and discuss issues of concern, such as marginalisation and isolation, and to find solutions to these issues, including feeding back to the local authority and other statutory, health and voluntary sector partners;

Social & Economic Opportunities
Working in partnership with statutory and voluntary sector partners towards improving economic and social opportunities and integrations among the community and representing the community voice;

Cultural Opportunities
Providing opportunities for community awareness, cohesion and integration such as dialogues, sports events, cultural events, workshops and conferences, and preserving Kenyan culture including Swahili as a medium of communication to those wishing to learn and those who would like to practice it.

Youth Activities & Resources
Providing activities, events and resources to inspire the younger generation and the community and enhance a sense of purpose, raise community esteem, safety and confidence; hence leading into positive contribution to the community, as well as creating a safe neighbourhood and community as a whole.

Raising awareness
Raising awareness, sharing and co-ordinating information that is useful and relevant to the community.

Substance Abuse & crime
Providing peer support activities to discuss issues around drug-abuse, alcoholism and criminal behaviour, and signposting to other support services.

Applicant Prerequisite

You must be a Kenyan citizen
You must hold a valid Kenyan passport.

You must reside in Reading, UK
You must reside at an address within Reading or the surrounding areas.

You must be at least 18 years of age
Only adults may apply.
Registration Requirements

Registration is £10
This is a one time registration fee and does not cover your subscription.

Annual subscription is £10
This is a yearly subscription that needs to be renewed every year.

Trustees
Kenya Reading Organisation (KRO) is managed by a committee of trustees who are appointed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the charity.
In order to carry out the charitable purposes, the trustees have the power to:
- Raise funds, receive grants and donations
- Apply funds to carry out the work of the charity
- Co-operate with and support other charities with similar purposes
- Do anything which is lawful and necessary to achieve the purposes
Membership
People who support the work of the charity and are aged 18 or over, can apply to the trustees to become a member. Once accepted by the trustees, membership lasts for 3 years and may be renewed. The trustees will keep an up-to-date membership list.
The trustees may remove a person’s membership if they believe it is in the best interests of the charity. The member has the right to be heard by the trustees before the decision is made and can be accompanied by a friend.
